The results of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (May 2019) are full of surprises, however, nobody expected this oytcome from a belgian wine: the best of 730 competing wines!
Belgium is of course already known as a real beer country, and we proudly claim to have the best and most diverse beers in the world. However, within the last 10 years belgian wines have resurfaced after not playing any role of significance for hundreds of years. Small winehouses started appearing across the country, and with them the quality began to rise.
We now have the proof that our expertise reaches further than hops and barley with this amazing result. What exactly happened? In the category “International Revelation Sparkling Wines” the Cuvée Prestige 2014 Brut Blanc de Blancs of the Chant d’Eole domaine was the best out of more than 730 competing wines, including about 200 real “champagnes” from the champagne area in France. Not bad for a small domaine of barely 22 acres.
Of course this is not the only success for belgian wines: three belgian wines received a gold medal, along with three silver medals. Once again proving that Belgium is one of the top countries in the world for amazing food and drinks!
